Income Tax Inspector Promotion Career Growth


  • After becoming a tax assistant, you become a Senior Tax Assistant, in the same way, after becoming a Senior Tax Assistant, you become an Income Tax Inspector. If you want, you will also become the Direct Income Tax Inspector by giving the SSC CGL exam.

  • After becoming the Income Tax Inspector, you become the Income Tax Officer (ITO) which is a gazetted post in Group B, then the Assistant Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Joint Commissioner, Additional Commissioner and finally reach the post of Commissioner of Income Tax.

  • You have to clear a Departmental Exam for becoming Income Tax Officer Generally, it takes 6-8 years time to become an ITO from ITI.

  • One can get first promotion in this job after completing 8 years of service after clearing the departmental exam.

  • Due to zonal seniority, the promotion period varies from zone to zone.
